Hyundai elantra 2003 4 cylinder79,000 miles. We bought this used 5 days ago, on day 4 we had no turn signal and the car won't shift gears it seems. What could be wrong

You say the car will not shift gears, does the gear selecter work all right? If it not the gear selector check the fluids in the transmission, how do they look? If the fluid looks dirty or smell bearnt then the transmission should have the fluid and filter changed.
