I have a 2002 hyundai excel with 13,000 miles the brake pedal seems to have a little too much play in it (it has to be pressed down quite a bit before stopping the car) the brakes are new. is there an adjustment for the pedal to brake higher?

Try pulling up on the parking brake, any improvement in pedal hieght? if yes, the rear brakes are out of adjustment. Get a brake spoon and pull the rubber covers off the backing plate and turn the starwheel until you just start to feel drag, pedal will then be ok!
