airbags deployed without any damaged to the body of the car

my wife bottom out her 2004 hyundia triboun by running over a speed bump going 50 she hads no body damaged to her car but the air bags deployed. why did that happen and is that cover under warranty or insurance

Welcome to the forum. I hope your wife is allright. I am sure that must have been a startling experience to say the least. :shock:

The sensors that tell the air bags to deploy obviously thought that there was a collision.

Whether the manufacturer will consider that a defect is I'm pretty sure going to be an arguement but maybe not. I would make the arguement that hitting a large bump or pot hole should not set something off that is supposed to go off only in a collision.

The insurance company might also contend that there was no accident. Once again it could be argued that hitting a large bump or piece of debri on the road was the cause.

You might want to contact an attorney about the inproper operation and potential safety hazard this entails. The threat of this or his help might get you some relief from footing the bill for this problem.
