Bought used a few months ago a 2001 Sante Fe. When we test drove it the check engine light was on. Used car dealer said he would check and make necessary repairs. Picked up car and he said it was the gas cap.
Car has ran absolutely terrible. Put peddle to the floor and it doesn't move, then suddenly takes off. Lots and lots of bucking. Takes at least three trys to start car in morning before it will stay running. Runs really rough.
Check engine light has never gone on again. We took it to a couple car stores for a basic diagnostic. Showed several problems, but no engine light on.
Took car to Hyundai dealership and they found the check engine light broken. I saw it myself. Looked like someone crushed it with pliers.
Questions:
1. Does anyone know if there have been common prolbems like above with Santa Fe's. General repairs needed?
2. My husband wants to give the guy we bought the car from a chance to repair. I don't trust him at all. What would you do?
One more note. My car lights were constantly going out. The used car dealer said it was my alternater and wanted to charge $750 for a new one and a tune up. I figured out what was wrong with it. It was just the arm that was bad.
Thoughts?
Thank you!
