1999 Other Hyundai Models misfire/surge at mid to low speeds

coupe has developed misfire and vibration (this info was gleened from south of france by phone on way to lake garda in italy).it seems to happen more in lower speeds,if
driven at motorway speeds its a lot smoother your help would be most appreciated.

When was it last tune-up ?

The check engine light is it On if so you need to get it scanned for OBD2 code/s and comeback with it.

Might want to start by checking fuel pressure/throttle position sensor and the vehicle speed sensor.
