Engine Performance problem
1991 Hyundai Excel 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

Ive had a go at replacing the timing belt on me car and ever since it has had drivability problems. It hesitates from stop and on acceleration. It cannot maintain 60 km/hr without coughing even at 80 km/hr. It does persistently. Some days it lacks power when staring up from cold.A few stabs at the pedal sort of clears the problemAlso their is rotten egg smell when driving with the windows down.

Yep the timing belt was replaced exactly. Haven't checked the cat yet. Would the isc motor affect ignition at cruising speeds. When I turn the ignition to the on position the isc is seen to be moving forward then reverse continuosly.

Hi:
Are you sure you got the timing belt exact? Also, the rotten egg smel is from the catylatic converter. Make sure it isn't plugged. That could cause the problems too. Listen for hissing or a rattle from the exhaust.

Let me know what you find.

Hi:
Are you refering to the Idle Air Control valve (IAC)? If so, no that has nothing to do with the timing.
