Transmission problem
2003 Hyundai Elantra 4 cyl Automatic 90,000 miles

My 2003 Hyundai Elantra is getting a used transmission installed under extended warranty. The warranty company told me that all I would have to pay the repair shop is the deductible, sales tax and maybe a filter, if needed.

From the beginning, the repair shop manager has tried to add on extra charges for me like resealing the transmision, etc. Which, according to the warranty company is not even necessary when installing a used transmission because it comes with a seal.

He now told me I would owe him $49 shop fees and approx. $110 to flush metals and debris out of the cooler? Does a Hyundai transmission even have a transmission cooler/radiator?

Somebody please help! I feel like I'm being taken advantage of.

Thank you!

I don't think the shop is taking advantage of you. The cooler is built into the radiator and should be flushed if the old one went bad. As far as seals, if the "USED" transmission has that many miles on it, it could have leaks.

Honestly, if anyone is taking advantage of you, I would say it is the warranty company. Why would they put a "used" transmision in if the car is under warranty. I would either demand a new one or have yours rebuilt.

Let me know if you have other questions.
