2002 Hyundai Elantra 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive 79000 miles

Months ago starting hearing a clicking sound when I would turn the car. A friend said it sounded like a bad axle. I put off getting it fixed. Now, it sometimes seems like it's in neutral when it's in drive. Also, it sometimes is at a higher rpm than normal when I'm driving. Could the bad axle be causing this? It seems like a transmission problem but am hoping that replacing the axle could fix the problem.

Hi there.

The clicking can be a worn CV in the drive shaft, but tis will not be the cause of the drive issue, i would have this checked by a transmission specialist as there will be a number of tests that will have to be done.
