If I was to work on your car, the first thing I would check is fuel pressure drop off. What that means is, when you turn on the key, the fuel pump pressurizes the system. When the key is off, the system should maintain that pressure or slightly drop. If it drops off to 0, the next start up will take a couple tries until the system is repressurized.
Here is how to video for checking fuel pump pressure. Your concern should be focused on when the engine is shut and the key is in the off position. Check to see how long the system holds pressure.

Let me know what you find. Also, if your check engine light has come on, let me know before you go through the trouble of checking fuel pump pressure. If the light is on, chances are it is a sensor.
