Transmission doesn't seem to engage while I'm driving. The engine revs when i step on the gas and I go nowhere and am suddenly jerked forward. This happens while driving in town at low speeds. What's happening?? Should the transmission filter be changed?

It is probably the Impulse Generator. Hyundai knew about this for many years but had no re-call! I am now on my 5th one.
