1999 Hyundai Elantra Single "PING" when turned of

1999 Hyundai Elantra 4 cyl Automatic

Recently my car has started making a somewhat loud "ping" noise about 15 seconds after it is shut off. There are some times that it doesn't do it but more often than not it does. Any idea what it could be?

If the engine is off, could it be the steel expanding on the exhaust system?
