Engine Cooling problem
1999 Hyundai Elantra Engine Size unknown Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 21400 miles

Hi,
My car has been giving me trouble since I purchased it from a auto trader. The car broke down once due to over heating however that problem was fixed by my mechanic by replacing the fan.
A month ago my car was smelling of sulphur. The mechanic checked and told me everything seems to be fine. However two days ago the car had steam comming out of it, but the temprature guage showed normal. Today I experienced sweet smell comming into the car even though the heating was off.
I am afraid the coolent is leaking and the mechanic is not able to find the leakage. Do I need to replace the head gasket?

The sweet smell you are talking about is probably the heater core leaking.
