airbag didn't deploy?

Got into an accident and the airbag did not deploy. Also wasn't wearing a seat belt. Do you need to have your seat belt on for the airbag to work?

Hello,

The airbag system is designed to deploy with or without the seat belt being fastened.
If the airbag did not deploy during the collision it can be for few reasons.
This vehicle has front air bag and it will deploy with a front collision. It the collision is from the rear or the side it may not deploy. (unless the vehicle is equipped with side impact air bags) As the sensor will not get triggered to deploy the air bag.
It may also not deploy if the accident does not exert enough energy to the sensors.

The airbag may not deploy if there is a fault in the system. On which it will need to be diagnosed to find out whether it is a sensor issue or a module issue.
