My sons car will not shift into reverse.
all other gears work
no other problems with car just no reverse
mechanic wants to replace whole engine
he said it was the axis cylinoid
Any suggestions?

You must have check engine light on
and if so what do you have for codes
also was the TCM checked ?

I bet the new engine didn't help much. Check codes at autozone-sensors on TRANSmission.
