I am having lots of trouble pumping gas it takes forever. I had my husband pull of the air lines on the gas tank about 4 months ago and tons of carbon bulid up came out . Today we r trying it again cuase the air in the tank shuts off the gas pump every 4 to 5 seconds. We noticed a little box on the other side of the hose. he stuck a rod in there and there is tons of carbon build up probably a pound in there. What is the name of that box? and what could we use to prevent this from happening?

EVAP Charcoal Canister. While you are at it, check your purge valve and purge control solenoid
