the car acts like it's not in gear lights work but nothing when you turn key new battery new cables starter ok can't even hot wire DO I NEED A HAMMER!!

No to the hammar. (lol) Do the dash lights and all other electrical components work when you turn the key on? Is there a clicking at the starter?
