I hit a puddle on the highway driving at about 55 mph. My car began to lose traction and hydroplaned. I regained traction but the car began making a loud noise like the muffler had detached. The sound was coming from the back left side, but my muffler is on the right. Nothing looks to be detached at first glance. It is also very hard to accelerate. It gets up to speed, but takes time. When the car is first turned on the maintenance required light turns on but no other light.

thoughts on what it may be and how much it will cost to repair?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Can you describe the noise? Was anything hit other than water? Is it possible for you to record the sound on your phone and upload it for me to hear?

Let me know.
