It's been about 10 days that I've started hearing a noise when I am driving. The noise gets louder when I accelerate or am on the highway. It sounds like it might come from the engine, it sounds like a loud humming noise.

I will definitely bring my car in, but I wanted to know if it may be possible to narrow down the symptoms to a few problems to have an idea if the problem could be dangerous and an idea about the cost!

Thanks in advance. Betty.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

If the sound chances with speed or turning, most times it is a wheel bearing that is going bad. When you drive, see if there is a change in pitch when you make a left or right turn. Let me know the results of that.

Also, unevenly worn tires (cupping, feathering, and so on) can make noise, so check the tires to make sure they are smooth, evenly worn, and don't have high and low spots. Here is a link to help identify different types of tire wear issues:

Let me know what you find and if you notice a change in pitch or sound when turning.

Take care,
Joe
