My brother is trying to replace the CV joints on a 1986 Subaru GL 4wd we just purchased. He asked me to see if I could find anything online about how to do the job properly. He is having an issue getting the old CV joint to come all the way out on the left side, the first one he is doing, as it is blocked. I believe he said it was a spring blocking the removal. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your time and attention.

Wheel off and undo end nut, tie rod off and lower ball joint undone lift the hub up and swing away while withdrawing the splined end of the drive shaft, the transmission end it held in with a knock in roll pin, it will be easy to see if you slowly turn the shaft around.
