How to replace a starter

I want to know to replace a starter in my car.
I did every thing to take it out but failed.
My question is, Is it necessary to remove a exhaust or steering rod?
I tried a lot but in vain.

there is no Lumina in this year is it a Malibu or Impala?

So sorry my mistake, this Lumina but model is 2001.
