I know this is a common problem for us DIY guys, but help! I have removed every screw from the water pump, under the pulley and every other damned place and can't get this fan off the water pump. I'm afraid to hit it with a hammer, looks like there is a spring holding the fan on and I don't wanna release it without knowing what I'm doing. I have experience working on cars, but want to make sure I do this procedure right. New water pump is in the mail and need advice asap! Help!

Thank you,

Sounds like you have a thermostatic clutch. Those have a wound-up flat metal spring made with a strip of metal about 1/4" wide. Those fan blades are held onto the clutch with four nuts but you don't remove those. The base of that assembly is bolted to the water pump with four bolts or four nuts. Nuts are found more commonly, and the studs screw into the water pump. Once those four nuts are remove you can usually use the fan blade as a lever to wiggle it until it lets go. Corrosion is what holds it tight.
