The P0339 code on a 2016 Ford Focus indicates a problem with the "Crankshaft Position Sensor 'A' Circuit Intermittent." I would just replace the sensor which is the problem 9 times out of 10. You will need an oscilloscope to test the sensor correctly, once connected start the engine and watch the waveform for irregularities, An alternative method is to use a voltmeter set to OHMS and test the resistance in the sensor windings and compare it to a new sensor but this is not a 100% accurate test because the sensor can act differently when in use. Here is how to replace the crankshaft sensor correctly. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Does this require a relearn procedure? I don't think my scanner can do it.

It says it does, but I have seen people disconnect the battery and then change the sensor out and did not need the relearn. Let me know how it goes.

Today the car started fine, but after the shop diagnosed it with a p2227, it refused to start. This time no crank sensor code. I was told it can be the PCM or need programming.

Please start a new question for the p2227 code, we only handle one problem per thread, please post your new question here, you must be logged in.
