I had to cut the old ball joint in half and bash it out, however now I cant get the new one in. Its too long, do I have to remove the cv joint? And if so how do I do that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

As I recall, the outer cv joint has to be pushed back against the spring pressure of the inner joint. The axle nut has to be removed, but never allow that one to be loose if the vehicle's weight is on the wheel bearing. Doing so will instantly make it noisy. That nut has to be torqued with a click-type torque wrench to its specification which could be pretty high. The easiest way to do that is to stick a screwdriver into one of the cooling slots in the rotor. It will catch on the caliper and keep the rotor and axle shaft from turning.
