Hot temperature gauge when air conditioner is on?

When the air conditioner is on, the temperature gauge goes hot. Can I drive short distances without turning on the air conditioner?

Hi,

Does this only happen when the AC is on? If that is the case, without using the AC, it should be okay.

Have you checked to make sure the engine coolant is full? Also, do you notice the radiator cooling fans turn on when it is hot? Will it overheat if you are driving at highway speeds with the A/C on?
