When your car gets too hot from a cooling system issue, the AC will not work. The condenser will not get proper cooling from the air flow and the AC system will not work correctly.
Is the car overheating?

Do you have a set of AC gauges that can read the high and low pressures? It would be good to see the pressures when the system gets hot.

You can rent a set of buy a cheap set for about $30.00 from Harbor Freight.
Unfortunately without seeing the pressures, it is difficult to help you get an answer.
