Engine Performance problem
1999 Honda Prelude Automatic 112000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My car is a v-tec. I had noticed at a low speed there was a loud rattling sound(or while idiling). Yesterday after driving in town, the car started dying out at stop lights and slow turns. The rattling sound was even louder. When I got home there was an odd smell. Not a sulpher smell of the cad. converter just an odd hot smell. Thanx so much for your help.

Not very detail, but I will try to answer your question.

First, check with the dealer if your car is one of the many under the recall of the ignition related components, you will need your VIN #. second, check your oil level, preludes tends to burn alot of oil. Rattling noise, hmm, while the car is running, Rev or tap the accelerator from idle to 1500 rpm quickly to hear any rattles, maybe heat shields or broken brackets from the exhuast systems. Could it also be Oil burning smells from recent oil change spills from the oil filter area onto the flex exhaust piping. Good LUck
