I scan my car using the obd code reader and it says code 12 (no EGR action). Whats happening in my car is even if I step on the gas it is just reving up but not speeding as much as I wanted to. I asked my mechanic and he says there could be a vacuum leak, transmission problem or timing belt wasnt put on properly or the egr valve as well. I havent replace the fuel filter since I bought it about 4 months ago, would it help if I replace that too? I already replace the wire set, plugs, air filter. Help anyone?

Hi deville_guy,

The EGR code would affect the engine performance, especially between 1500 to 200 rpm. Disconnect and plug the EGR vacumn hose and test if the performance improves.

If the fuel filter is clogged badly, it would affect performance as well. Replacing it might not solve the problem if it is not the cause. Check the ignition timing first, as the mechanic asvised, it could be the timing out of specs.

Rotor and cap would cause misfiring and poor performance as well.

Before replacement of any parts, it would be best to check adjustments first to avoid unnecessary replacement of parts.

Check the ignition timing first.

Hi, my name is ted-e-d, I am a Honda Master Tech. Not sure how bad your accel. Problem is, but I can tell you Honda has their own "Aoto Trans. " Rebuild plant due to issues w/ their automatics. Not saying anything bad about Honda, they are my 1st choice ! If your accel. Problem is severe, you may have a bad trans., A quick ck. Is to examine the fluid. If it is dark, or smells burnt, you could have a bad trans. It would also worth your while to get the service manual on line, you can get it for a week, month, whatever you want. I am new to 2carpros & online manuals, best thing since sliced bread ! Theoxski@rocketmail. Com

Hi Ted,

Thank you for the input. You are correct about Honda trans issues but there is something that I would like to clarify.

Honda trans only started having issues from 1998 model onwards when they were replaced with fully electronically controlled units wihout the throttle pressure control.

For 1992 models, there were no such issues.
