Noises problem
1989 Honda Prelude 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

If I have been driving a few miles and come to a stop light and have to idle in neutral or even at a very low rpm, my prelude almost seems to "Rev" up and I can hear the car Rev up and down. I was wondering what may be possibly making the exhaust sound that way? possibly the gaskets? or is it maybe im not getting any back pressure. I've had the car for a few years, it's recently started to do this and I haven't modified the exhaust system as it sits I have Dc Headers with a high flo catt and no muffler. any ideas?

Hi icepick,

Seems the idling system is not functioning correctly causing the surging due to excessive air getting past the throttle body.

Possible causes are:
1. Idling speed adjusted too high.
2. Vacumn leakages. PCV, brake boster, dialodged hoses etc
3. Clogged cold start valve coolant hoses or valve remaining in open position when operating temperature is reached.
4. Faulty IAC (EACV)
