99 Honda CRV - Air Conditioning

When I turn on the air conditioning or heat with the air circulation on, a really bad "gym-bag" kind of smell comes out. This also happens when the car just sits there for at least 10 minutes. However, when I turn on the AC without the air circulation on, the smell goes away. Where is the smell coming from?

The fresh air intake on the car located by the wipers is possibly not draining very well. There is a drain for this. You are quite possibly getting the musty smell from the crap built up in the intake vents. Time for a cleaning.
