The rear hatch is held open by two pistons. One of the pistons is leaking and the hatch will not stay open (obviously they need to be replaced).

Is it just a matter of loosening the bolts attached to the frame to remove the pistons, or do you have to get into the inside of the hatch and frame to make sure that a "nut" does not drop down to the bottom of the hatch and frame?

Hi MRay,

The internal nut is welded to the frame so you need not worry about them. However sometimes the bolts tends to stick due to rust so if the bolt gets very tight while removing, do not force, you might get the internal nut off its seat, and that would be troublesome. Some WD40 sprayed onto the bolt would help while removing.
