how do i remove the outer cv joint from the drive shaft

Hi mitchell50,

With the shaft clapmed to a vice, get an assistant to pull at the joint while you use a bar and hammer to tap the inner cone of the shaft to release the C spring lock clip inside. Do not use excessive force to avoid damage to the joint or clip.

Alternatively you can get it done at your local machine shop for a few dollars.

Note: Some joint are stuck stiff due to dmage to the spring clip and when this occurs, you would have to cut the CV joint apart to get it off.
