The brake light on the dashboard is lit but the parking brake is not engaged. What can be causing this.

If it is the wording "BRAKE" then either or more one of the rear brake light bulbs are fused.

If not, then one of the brake failure sensors attached to the rear tailights are defective. If you have changed the rear lights, the sensor might not be compatible

Wrong wattage of bulbs used will also cause the problem.

If it is the parking or handbrake indicator, then either the fluid level is low or the fluid level sensor is shorted. A shorted parking switch wire or loose parking lever switch can be the fault too.
