2008 Honda CRV Difference between real time 4WD and AWD

2008 Honda CRV 4 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

Is there any difference between the "real time" 4WD and the Suburu AWD? Is one system superior than the other for driving on slippery, wet or icy roads? I do not intend to go off road.

The name is different but the principles are similar. Some components are different such as LSD.
