Engine began to overheat. I waited till it cooled down overnight before lifting the hood. Once opened i noticed no coolant in the radiator or in the plastic container. I poured about 2 cups of water in the container closed everything up and it continued to overheat. I runs at normal temperature on the highway but when driving slow or stopped/idle it shoots back to red hot. What can be preventing this. I'm in SD so weather is pretty neutral here.

Sound's like your radiator cooling fan isn't working can you hear it running when it's overheating?
