Fan does not work

Four cylinder all wheel drive automatic 50,000 miles.

The fan to the air conditioner stopped working. It looks like the air conditioner compressor is not turning on and off. The fan speed knob has no effect on the blower. The fan speed has no effect if the heater is on, it just does not blow.

An indicator light shows that the air conditioner is on, but as mentioned, the fan is not working. I have checked some fuses and not able to tell which is the exact fuse for the blower. All the fuses i checked were not blown.

Thanks

Hi larryheredia and welcome to 2carpros,

Check the fuse number 55, 40 amp and fuse number 17, 7.5 amp and test the blower motor relay in the fuse/relay box right rear corner of engine compartment.

I was mistakened, the car is a 2003 Honda CRV not a 2001. Thanks for previous suggestion. I checked the fuses and they are fine. My wife's car is identical, I connected the blower to her car and the motor blower worked fine. I was unable to find the relay.

Other information includes, that I do not hear the clutch for the air conditioner engaging, and the antifreeze level had been low.

What else may i check? thanks for your help.

Find the relay and test it. For 2003 see below:

It is likely to be the thermal fuse blown in the fan controller fitted near the fan under the passenger side console. The controller is about 2 by 1.5 inches in size and has a plug on the bottom and a fin like heat sink on the other access is gained to the insides by pressing the plastic cover off the plug side and un-soldering the transistor legs time three and all other soldered connections to the board then you will see the fuse under a clamp that is holding it in place. It should read short CCT when measured with a multi-meter. They are rated at 2 amps and 114 deg C and should be available at Radio Shack for a couple of dollars. Good luck.
