R/R the distributor takes about 45 mins.-get out of there its a rip off deal. See below

replacing a distributor on my suv

Distributor can only be plugged in one way.

Removal:

1. Disconnect the connector from the distributor.
2. Disconnect the ignition wires from the distributor ignition (DI) cap.
3. Remove the mounting bolts from the distributor, then remove the distributor from the cylinder head.

Installation:

1. Bring the No.1 piston to compression stroke TDC.
2. Coat a new 0-ring with engine oil, then install it.
3. Align the lug on the end of the distributor and its mating grooves in the camshaft end, then slip the distributor into position.

NOTE: The lug on the end of the distributor and its mating grooves in the camshaft end are both offset to eliminate the possibility of installing the distributor 180° out of time.

4. Install the mounting bolts, and tighten them lightly.
5. Connect the ignition wires to the distributor ignition (DI) cap as shown.
6. Connect the connector to the distributor.
7. Set the ignition timing.
8. After setting the ignition timing, tighten the mounting bolts.

Car was running fine but it did need a new Catalytic converter. Car was idling when it started to make a funny noise. I turned it off. Waited and when I tried to start it again it would not come on. Car would crank but just wouldn't start. I had it towed to Firestone and they said it needs a new distributor. Cost 650. Does this sound accurate?

The symptoms do indicate a possible fault with the distributor and the cost varies between from where you are located. To get an accurate price, you should get a second opinion. Inquire at the local parts store and they should be able to provide you with the correct price.

The labor time for replacing the distributor is 0.7 hour.

My car keeps shutting off, no lights, no overheating, just off. I apparently need a new distributor.....how much should that cost, and what is it? any help would be wonderful

A distributor is a unit that distributes ignition spark to your cylinders. It also has a few sensors in there that measures engine position.

A new distributor (aftermarket) is about $200-300. From Honda, it's about $500+.
