I just replaced the timing belt and water pump.I start the car and it wont idle but 1000 rpm and above the car runs fine. I think the timing is out. How do I fix this problem. Did I not set the camshaft correctly. Or can I fix this by messing with the distributor.

Sounds like your a tooth or two off. Did you pin the cams? If it's twin cam there are holes in cam-caps b-hind cam pulleys. Put punch of similar diameter in the holes so the cams don't move. Make sure you are on the "white mark" on crank pulley for " t.D.C.". Re- check these align marks & reset if needed
