I have a rhythmic thumping noise when I back up. It seems to be coming from the back end. I disappears when going forward. It is not very pronounced but noticeable. Could it be brakes (or I hope not the transmission). I have always kept up on the scheduled maintenance. What could it be? Thanks.

Have your rear brakes checked out.
