Bonjour!!
My Honda crv 99 is in general in a very good mecanical condition except for a muffler raddle when I hit several bumps, no noise on the freeway. It seems to hit the floor of the vehicule and so I do not knowif the rubbers are wheare with time . It is the only original part of the vehicule but no leak or noise.

Thanks for an answer or a guide note . Alain

Hi Alain,

Sometimes mufflers rattle because the internal parts atr bad.

Try banging the muffler when it is cold and if any rattling noise is heard, locate the sourcr. If it is from the internal part of the muffler or catalytic converter, replacement is necessary. Catalytic converter are known to cause rattling noises when they are bad.

As the catalytic converter goes bad, peices can get in muffler and get stuck and rattle around. This happened to me for around a month. Then the peice of metal finally fell out exhaust pipe and sound went away. Worst case senerio it clogs up exhaust and caused backflow issues.
