I've had the same problem with my 99 CR-V's clock. I took it out and opened its housing. Inside, you'll see parts on the board, including several resistors, which appear as flat components, about 1/4" x 1/8" that are black with numbers, like '103' or something like that. I forget the actual values. Anyway, you'll see that one or two have cracks in the solder. I just remelted the solder on one end, added some, let it cool, and repeated on the other end of each resistor. (I'm an electronics engineer so I solder all the time.) My clock has worked fine since. It's not dimming now, so I need to pull it and do the fix again. I'll add a post with a picture when I do so. I've done a similar fix in the compass module in a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer.
