My 98 CRV honda continues to completely shut off while I am driving. This only happens when the car has warmed up and also when carrying approx. 80 extra lbs in addition to the driver. The thermostat appeared broken and was replaced this past Monday, this did not fix the problem. Everything on the car will shut off, electrical, motor and power steering.

What could be the cause of the shut downs?

Hi chazlinks,

The most likely cause would be a faulty ignition switch. When vehicle cuts off, are the dash lights showing?

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

When the crv shuts down everything goes. Dash lights, motor, power steering. The works.

I can bring all electrical back up immediately. Typically, I need to wait several minutes to get car started again.

I would suspect a faulty ignition switch. It fails intermittently due to heat and this item fails quite often over time.
