I took my 98 honda crv into a mechanics due to what i(and the mechanics thought was just the axel) due to loud banging/bouncing/cracking noise coming from front of car when turning the steering wheel and two days prior to this my car started veering to the left when driving. After the mechanics replaced the two front cv axels and joints he said the car was still making this noise. So he said it had a transmission problem. So I paid 1600 to fix the transmission. And after two months of being in the shop, the mechanic finally got the transmission rebuilt and put back in. But now the mechanic is saying he cannot get my car to start--and I have never had ANY issues with the car starting. So the mechanic replace the 02 sensors. And the transmission mount, the coil and ignitor and the spark plugs but to no avail--(also the mechanic said while my car was sitting on their lot waiting to be fixed the catalytic convertor was stolen and he replaced it--maybe the reason for the 02 sensors being out?) The mechanic said after putting in the trans the car crunk up for about 10 minutes and now it will turn over but not catch? Does this sound legit to you guys. Could they have messed up the engine when rebuilding the transmission? Please help.I need my car back.

Hi carisa3,

There are a host of possible reasons why the engine is not firing up and since the vehiclle is with a mechanic, it is not going to be easy to handle unless the mechanic is willing to cooperate.

You need to verify if it is ignition, fuel or mechanical fault that is causing the problem.

1. Ignition problem should have been settled as the ignition coil and ignitor had been replaced.
2. Fuel problem. Possible if fuel pump is not operating. Might be a faulty PGM-FI main relay.
3. Mechanical. Check if the timing belt is faulty.
4. Check for proper groundings of wire harness at engine.
