My vehicle won't shift out of park

I depress the brake and attempt to shift from park to drive but am unable to shift out of park.

Hi:

Okay, this is going to sound crazy, but are your brake lights working? Here is how it works. You have a park lock solenoid on the vehicle. It isn't designed to release until it receives power from the brake light switch. Hence, you need to put your foot on the brake to shift from park. If the brake light switch has gone bad, it won't come out of park. Check that and let me know what you find.

I hope this helps. Sorry for being wordy, but I feel it is easier to fix a problem if you understand how things work.
