1997 Honda CRV Noise From Transfer Case/Transmission Area

Loud bearing noise that appears to come from transfer case or ouput driveshaft to transfer case. Transmission shifts normally,but noise gets louder as the speed increases (the faster the car is moving).

Can the transfer case rear driveshaft bearinng be replaced without the need to replace the transmmision?

I am not sure which bearing you mean, but most of those outer bearings can be replaced w/out trans. removal. One thing I strongly reccomend is changing your rear differential fluid. It breaks down & creates a loud bearing type noise. One way to determine if this is your noise is to turn steering wheel all the way in either direction & see if noise gets louder. Do this in a large empty parking lot where you have room and can safely perform test. You do not have to go fast. Turn steer wheel & then start moving. Use only HONDA DUAL PUMP FLUID. Good Luck !
