When the air conditioning is on and I turn left, the car makes a funny noise like there is sand or water running from left to right on the passenger side. The noise is louder when I make a faster or sharper turn. My car is a 2001 honda civic with 80000 miles on it.

Here is what I believe you are experiencing. There is a pan that catches the water taken out of the vehicle by the A/C. It has a drain to drip to the ground and does so but when you make that left turn the water sitting in the pan it thrown to the drain side and come out filling the drain tube to capacity. The water is forced to the right because of the movement of the car. The water makes contact with the tire and is thrown. The wet tire might also pick up sand and dirt easily when wet that is thrown off the tire as well.
