I drive a 95 civic hatchback. With a 96 ex motor with a dx bottom end and ex tranny with 35,000+ miles. For the last few days my tranny has been making a loud knocking noise when the car is in nuetral and when I engaged the cluth the sound stop and when I disengaged it continues. Can someone help me? And I live in illinois and there not a lot of shops that deal with import motors. Actually theres none.

It appears that someone in the area knows something about cars to have assembled that engine from various pieces. I would be suspecting a throwout bearing.

It still can be the throwout but either way you are going to need to seperate the tranny and the engine to fix it. Grab a Haynes manual and do it yourself.
