We have a 98 Honda Civic Coupe, 4 cylinders. We've had to replace the distributor 4 times within the last 6 months! Mechanics don't know why it keeps going bad. Your feedback would be extremely appreciate!

Are they just replacing it because that is the simpliest or what? Have they taken the time to check the internal components to find which of them is going out? Have you considered that this problem could be an electrical spike that occurs occasionally?

Thank you for your prompt reply. They've told me that they have checked the wires and all seem to be fine. This last time, they told me that it was a component within the distributor that went bad but you have to replace the entire part

That is only partly true. The components in the dist are generally the ignition coil, TDC sensor, and the ICM. It is possible that a component goes out but not all of them. Are they replacing with new parts?
