I have a Honda Civic model 2007 automatic transmission. When I start the engine, the engine raises in neutral, parking and reverse. No problem in driving. This happens only when the car is parked for a while and when I ignite the engine. The engine gives me a raising sound in parking, netral and when I am reversing. I have just done the major service by changing all the consumables. Airplug, all oils have been changed. Can you please let me know the reason for my engine giving me this jarring sound when I am starting. Thank you.

Hi golucky200,

When the engine temperature is low, the engine rpm would be raised when the Idle Air control valve allows more air into the intake manifold. This is known as the cold start feature and the rpm should go down after a while.

The rpm would depend on the coolant tmperature and if the idling speed remains high for prolonged periods, the IAC could be sticking.

Check if there is sufficient coolant in the radiator.
