The trunk will no longer latch. It will still move properly when pushed with a screwdriver and latch into place but it will not do this when the hatch is closed. The little hook does not seem to be completely coming all the way around to lock and latch. I could not even force it to when inside with somebody holding the trunk down. Do I need to replace the latch or is there some other problem?

Try adjusting the striker plate up a little. there should be some adjustment available there.
