When I placed the gear in park this morning, there was a clicking sound, what is it and is it expensive to repair?

Hi Diane623,
Thank you for the donation.
When the gear was shifted into park, was the vehicle stationary?
Are you still getting the noise when shifting into park?

I am not able to understand the problem from the information provided.
Can you describe the situation in more details and let me know of anything that might make it easier or me to understand the situation?
Where is the noise coming from?
When gear is engaged in P, with handbrake released, are you able to move the vehicle by pushing it?

The clicking noise is in the gear shift and is heard when the car is placed in park, I don't hear the "clicking" sound at any other time. The car has an automatic transmission, there is no need to appyly the parking brake.
There is no need to push the car it does not have a manual transmission.

When gear is shifted into park or is in park, depressing the brake pedal would result in the interlock solenoid clicking.
If the clicking is continous, you would have to check the interlock soleanoid operations or the brake pedal switch.
